Blog #3

For this week blog I chose comparison between Roman Colosseum and a modern stadium.
Colosseum was build some 1900 years ago. It has many features that are still used in modern stadiums and arenas: sloped seating for spectators, crowd control features, numbered entrances, etc. One can almost imagine excited spectators rushing in to see their favorite entertainment or game just like now days people go to see football game or baseball. In chapter 6, it seems there are many things that we consider to be part of modern life: bridges, stadiums, coins with portraits of important people, large scale structures, aquaducts.

  1. This picture reminds me that I saw the Rolling Stones and Prince play at the Coloseum in Los Angeles sometime in the 80's. Prince was not understood by the mostly biker type Stones audience, and was pelted by the audience with a number of flying pairs of shoes. Anyway, the coloseum in LA is an impressive structure and is an intense place to be when it is filled to capacity. I bet the Roman one was too. By the way, I am a visiting blog stalker who stumbled upon your blog by accident. Hello from Oregon! Come visit my blog Mr. Slug's Adventures sometime!

  2. Yeah, it is cool to think structures today are still molded after ancient creations. They were created so long ago, yet vary slightly from the original plans. It makes you wonder if the creators knew that what they were creating would have such an impact on future generations... and with very little changes in them.

  3. It is crazy to think that the same general concept used around 1900 years ago are still being used today. Your comparrison was very true; both structures are very similar and very beautiful. This is a prime example of how Roman art influences modern art in the world we live in today.
